Family photo sessions during a Michigan summer evening can’t be beat, especially when taken by the Clinton River in Rochester, Michigan. These are often both the parents’ and kids’ favorite session because of the obvious reason - you get to play in the water! And laugh. And splash. And laugh some more!
It is a chance to capture that playfulness and innocence of childhood in the summer.
There’s nothing better.
Since these photo shoots are so loved, I now offer them as an option for family summer photo sessions in the Metro Detroit area! And once a year, they are offered as a Limited Edition Mini Session. Ready for the details for 2020’s sessions?

Friday, July 24 with appointments from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Van Hoosen Farms located in Rochester, Michigan (new location this year!)
20 minute sessions
Session fee of $100, and includes an 11x14" mounted print of your choice + digital file. Additional digital image Collections are purchased separately ($900 for 25 digital images, $500 for 10 digital images or $300 for 3 digital images). You may choose to pay the total you want upfront, or when you see your proofs and upgrade at that time.

Outfit suggestions for River Photography Sessions
My rule of thumb is always to coordinate colors, not be matchy matchy (aka: everyone wear khakis and a black shirt). But lets talk about some specifics to give you some inspiration!
For the boys, a pair of jeans rolled up in the water and a classic white t-shirt or color block shirt is so fitting and timeless. Or rust color type jeans make for a nice pop of color for boys’ outfits. If you have younger boys and they “let” you put them in suspenders or bib overalls with no shirt, I promise you won’t be disappointed in the cuteness of it all.
For the girls, long flowy dresses are absolutely beautiful in and out of the water. They make for the perfect added effects in the photos, and bonus: you get twirly dress photos as well! Creams, muted pinks, blues, muted mustard, rust color and so forth are stunning in the pictures.
For the dads, they seem to always be the easiest! I’d follow the same as for the boys’ recommendations, minus the suspenders and bib overalls!
For the moms, always pick your outfit first! Your outfit will give the overall inspiration for everyone else’s. Find what you feel good in, and go from there. Beyond that, just like the girls’ outfits above, the long flowy dresses are just stunning on you. Plus, this helps when you’re playing with the kids, bending over, etc.
For the baby, little baby rompers are the cutest! Lenny Lemons has some adorable options for both boys and girls here. But I’ll be honest with you, we will also need to do some bare baby butt photos too!
