In-home lifestyle newborn sessions have been becoming more and more popular the last few years. And you and your cute bump and spouse are trying to decide which type of photo session is right for your growing family. Let me tell you a little more about these insta-worthy in-home sessions.
What can I expect from an in-home lifestyle newborn session?
This is for the parents who want to capture their family, their moments, and their home just as they are.
It is your story. Your emotion. Your connection. Your growing family.
And the moments will just be natural and organic.
But you’re not quite sure what the experience will be like. Will it be weird to have the photographer in our home? And so many other questions.
The experience will be super chill, relaxed and fun.
And I love being welcomed in your home for these sessions. There’s no better place to capture you and your family than at home sweet home.
You don’t really know how you’ll be feeling postpartum, so the thought of not having to leave your home for a session sounds so appealing. The comfort of your own home, there’s nothing like it.
I’ll bring you some Starbucks, because the struggle of sleep deprivation is real! You’ll show me your home - Wherever the natural light is in your home is where we will likely shoot.
If you have older children, they will absolutely be involved as well! I want to capture them as they transition into their new role of big brother/sister. And they will love the attention.
Yes, your furry family members too. :)
Now the big question for in-home sessions…
Does my whole house need to be clean?!
Absolutely not. We will likely be shooting in your main living spaces of the family room, baby’s nursery, and your master bedroom. Like I said, wherever the natural light is best. A simple tidy up in those rooms is all you need.
And some more questions you’re likely wondering about.
What if my baby won’t settle during the session?
Babies pick up on your stress, so first things first, don’t worry. Typically baby will settle after a clean diaper, full tummy, burps, and being swaddled. If baby takes a little bit of time to settle after that, it is totally fine. Newborn sessions are not rushed, and typically take around 2.5-3 hours for this purpose.
I have no idea what to wear.
Since it is an at-home session, you want to look the part. Wear what you normally would at home. Comfy, relaxed clothes that are what you wear on the reg. Simple clothing, neutrals or muted tones, are always a win. Mamas, wear something flowy so you feel good.

We’re awkward and don’t know how to pose in pictures.

That’s ok. The photos aren’t about your house. It doesn’t have to look like everything you see on social media and be perfect. The session at your house is about you, your family and where you’re at in life at this moment. And it is a beautiful story to be captured right where you are.
