Clinton Township, Michigan Newborn Photographer | Why I Only Photograph Newborn Babies In-Studio

Welcoming a newborn into your family is a one of the biggest milestones in your lives, filled with joy and anticipation. As a Clinton Township, Michigan newborn photographer, the decision to focus on studio sessions is one that stems from a commitment to providing the best possible experience and results for my clients. In this blog post, I’m going to share the reasons behind the choice to exclusively offer studio newborn photography sessions and the unique benefits that come with this decision.

1. You don’t have to worry about cleaning your house. POV: You’re 2.5 weeks after giving birth, your house is a mess, you have bottles galore on the counter that need to be washed, dog hair all over the couch that needs to be vacuumed, and you’re working on 3-4 hours of sleep. The last thing you want to do is prepare your house for a photo session. Insert coming to the studio here. We can capture that same homey and cozy vibe in the studio and you don’t have to lift a finger. As a matter of fact, you get to relax and watch me work with and pose your baby while you sip a refreshment.

2. I don’t expect you to know how the lighting in your home is for a photo session. The lighting in every person’s home varies, and several factors impact the lighting. Some homes have less natural light, and therefore your photos will likely all be near your windows. Other homes have colorful walls that may be, for example, green, and you likely didn’t realize that those green walls will bounce light and give your skin a greenish tone. This takes me to point #3 below. I don’t want you to have to worry or think about these things that photographers handle for you.

3. You’ll get what you see from my portfolio. Studio sessions consistently have the same gorgeous brightness/aesthetic/tones. When you look at the portfolio of a photographer in a studio, you know you’ll get exactly the same style and vibe that you view and love in their portfolio. In-home sessions will vary based on the home’s decor, style of home and interior design skills and so forth.

4. Temperatures, space - I’ve got you covered. In-studio, I can perfectly prepare the studio for your newborn baby’s session before you even step foot in the studio. I arrive early and get the temperature turned up so it’s nice and toasty for optimal posing of your infant and have all the sets all ready to pose baby in. It’s things like this you wouldn’t think about because, well, you shouldn’t have to… you’re the client, not the professional.

5. You want a variety of backdrops and props. Your newborn baby’s session is thoughtfully curated with a variety of backdrops, props, and accessories to suit different themes and styles that you pick out at your consultation. This allows for a more personalized and creative approach to each baby’s photoshoot, and you get more variety in your gallery, prints and albums! Typically, in-home sessions are very minimal props and swaddles.

6. You want to relax and enjoy the session. Remember point #1 about not cleaning and tidying your home? This plays in to relaxing. The photo session itself for parents is also a well deserved break. There’s no letting the dog out, changing the laundry or doing dishes during your studio session. See that comfy couch over there by the mini frig? That’s for you. Want to watch me work with your new little babe the entire time? You’ve got a front row seat while you scroll on Instagram and do some online shopping.

7. Most importantly, newborn posing and safety, always. No matter where your session takes place, be sure to select a specialized expertise in newborn posing and safety. Often times, this means selecting a photographer whose niche is newborn photography, that way they have honed their skills in for safely handling and posing newborns to create those captivating photos you see and love.

My hope for this was to give you clarity on the newborn portrait session and further information on the benefits of an in-studio session! I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding newborn sessions or newborn photography itself. Talk soon, Friends!

Chelsie
